Holiday Promotions: ‘Tis the Tea-son

Hotel deLuxe already presents custom-blended teas, hand-crafted delicacies, and tea-infused cocktails at its Afternoon Tea. The concept will receive a yuletide twist with holiday tea blends from Smith Teamaker, a live pianist playing seasonal standards, holiday cocktails, and winter-inspired tea sandwiches, savories and sweets. The property will serve this holiday version of Afternoon Tea in its gilt dining room seven days a week between Black Friday, November 25, and New Year’s Day, January 1, 2017.

DSC_0217_1Afternoon Tea at Hotel deLuxe, which debuted last year and is normally served Thursday through Sunday, marries the elegance of the English tradition with Portland’s signature focus on creative collaboration and curation. During the holiday season, the custom-blended black and green teas that Portland’s Smith Teamaker created exclusively for the hotel will be joined by Smith’s signature 2016 holiday teas to round out the roster of 11 exotic blends served during Afternoon Tea at Hotel deLuxe. These two seasonal holiday blends include Silent Night (“a candy cane in a cup”) and Morning Light, a festive black tea with hints of Darjeeling and Northwest Douglas fir needles.

The food served during Holiday Afternoon Tea at Hotel deLuxe adheres to the English tradition. Arranged at the center of each table for sharing, guests during Holiday Afternoon Tea will enjoy delicate tea sandwiches inspired by traditional recipes that include Tomato Twiddle—a blend of chopped tomatoes, cheddar, and onion—as well as ham and English mustard and cucumber with watercress; warm housemade scones served with clotted cream and house-preserves; warm savory tartlets; and dainty house-made pastries including orange-pistachio meringue and iced gingerbread.

DSC_0946Afternoon Tea at Hotel deLuxe also features tipples made with tea-infused Townshend’s spirits from Portland’s Thomas & Sons distillery. Crafted by the team at the hotel’s Driftwood Room, during the holiday season, these will include:

·       Bitter Flame: Woodford rye whiskey, Angostura Amaro, Townshend’s No. 5 Smoke Tea Liqueur, orange twist ($11)

·       Alpine Cozy: Mekhong Thai rum, Townshend’s Bluebird Alpine liqueur, allspice dram, fresh squeezed lemon juice, bitters, hot water ($12)

·       Clouds of Ceylon: Aria dry gin, Townshend’s No. 2 Sweet Tea liqueur, bitters, topped with a sprig of fresh rosemary ($11)

Priced at $39 for adults or $18 for children age 12 and under (excluding gratuity), Holiday Afternoon Tea at Hotel deLuxe is a 90-minute experience, served seven days a week (excluding New Year’s Eve). It includes tea and accompaniments and can be enhanced with a glass of bubbly for $6 or a la carte cocktails.
