Kim Haasarud, James Beard-honored
mixologist and owner of Liquid Architecture
in Phoenix, recently created the “Hot
Buttered Banana” with The Quiet One
blender from Vitamix.
With its sound-reduction properties
and floating technology, the blender is
ideal for applications in coffee houses,
restaurants, and bars, and blends nicely
into front-of-house operations.
“Blended drinks have gotten a bad
rap, and many bartenders dislike using blenders because they
are loud and fall apart easily,” says Haasarud, who creates cocktail
programs for bars and restaurants across the country. “Not
all blenders are created equal. I have been using The Quiet One
for a few years now, and I absolutely love it.”
Haasarud appreciates the blender’s
horsepower, blade design, speed controls,
and life span, and she uses it for different
types of preparations, including fresh fruit
purées, nut and rice milks, whipped cream,
and, of course, ice.
“Creating different types of ice and
varying the texture in a drink are very
important,” she says. “I discovered that the
shape of the blade on The Quiet One and
length of time you are blending affect the
molecular shape of the ice particles. They
stick together better and keep the drink colder, longer.” —MP
