From the lobby to the restaurants to
meeting spaces and back-of-house areas,
the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers
in Midtown Manhattan uses GE Lighting
products throughout the 1,750-room
convention hotel.
“We have been using GE products at
our facility for several years because they are consistent,
high in quality, and run for their entire projected life
cycle,” says Jack Keddy, director of engineering for the
hotel, Starwood’s flagship Sheraton property.
Many of GE’s products offer energy-saving benefits
as well. The Sheraton New York specifies the manufacturer’s
ENERGY STAR products, as well as compact
fluorescents (CFLs), which the company says use up to
75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer
than regular incandescent bulbs.
The hotel utilizes the Outdoor Lighting Payback
Calculator on GE’s website to estimate cost savings
when they need to retrofit the hotel with more energyeffi
cient LED fixtures, says Keddy. An online calculator
is also available for linear fluorescent lighting, and GE
offers a toolkit for lighting professionals that estimates
energy, watts-per-square-foot, lighting layout, fixture
replacement, and cost of waiting.
“I have never heard any negative comments regarding
GE Lighting products,” adds Keddy, “and I have
always been satisfied.” —MP
