Break-Resistant Buffetware » Standing Strong

Europaeus Break-Resistant Buffetware Freddy Espinoza, executive steward at Planet Hollywood Hotel, Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, oversees a lot of meals. For serving food in the hotel’s banquet rooms as well as its buffets and room service, he opts for white Europaeus Oca Bianca melamine dishes. “I used to buy ceramic, but then I switched to melamine because of problems with chipping and breakage—the melamine is more cost effective,” he says.

Espinoza adds that bowls and platters from Europaeus are versatile as well as durable and “hold up well with hot and cold temperatures.” He also likes their look, describing them as “good for what we do here, very close in appearance to ceramic.” For banquets, Espinoza often pairs the platters with Europaeus’ double- or triple-tiered display stands, which also fit other Europaeus lines, including terracotta, ceramic, and porcelain.

Because of the volume he serves, Espinoza frequently has to replenish his supply of serving dishes, which sometimes means placing orders with Europaeus two or three times a month. “The service is good. The sales rep normally calls to check in on how the orders are going, and the orders don’t take long to get here,” he says. “Overall, Europaeus products are a good value, and they are easy to work with.” —JM
