Sè San Diego recently opened its doors after a complete renovation to complement the luxury hotel’s prime location adjacent to House of Blues on Broadway. The transformation of meeting and banquet rooms teamed John Lunsmann, Gemstone Hotels and Resorts’ corporate director of purchasing, with designers from the Rockwell Group.
“Our goal was to be the sleekest, sharpest boutique hotel in San Diego. The rooms are heavy on design, calling for chairs that would satisfy the design team’s vision as well as the practical aspects of cost and durability,” Lunsmann explains. “Above all, the chairs had to be Sè chairs–chairs you couldn’t find anywhere else.”
Lunsmann spent a year and a half working with Global Allies for Sè’s seating, a process that involved deliberating on everything from colors to cushion thickness. “There was a point after five months where I called Global Allies to see if they were ready to throw their hands up. Instead, they reassured me that they were accustomed to the selecting process and were happy to help.”
Lunsmann is so impressed with Global Allies that he has specified the company for all of Gemstone’s upcoming hotel projects, including three new-builds and another ground-up renovation. As a purchasing director, Lunsmann’s favorite chair feature is durability. “The only way I’ll have to replace these chairs is if the employees steal them, because they aren’t going to break!” –VO
