Disposable food packaging can be not only stylish and durable, it can now be easy on the Earth. Last year, Genpak introduced its Harvest Collection, the first-ever line of completely biodegradable single-use food, drink, and dinnerware containers.
According to Jeff Cole, Genpak marketing manager, the company uses the latest “green” technologies in creating the new bio-based to-go containers, which are produced using annually renewable resources. They are made from a resin containing PLA (polylactic acid); proteins; and the starches from wheat, rice, and corn, making them completely biodegradable when disposed of in a commercial composting facility.
The Harvest Collection of takeout containers includes bowls, plates, compartmentalized plates, hinged containers, and cups. Lids are also available. “All Harvest Collection pieces feature strong, cut-resistant parts that will not weaken when used for wet food applications, Cole says. “And the items may be used in applications where food temperature reaches up to 130° F.
“The Harvest Collection is the perfect solution for hotels that are concerned about reducing waste while maintaining quality foodservice standards,” adds Cole. “The compostable carry-out food containers can be thrown away with other food products, so there is no need to separate items.”?JH
