Hilton Hotels Corporation is committed to providing its hotels with several
point of sale technology solutions that support its standardized offering.
MICROS Systems, Inc. and its division Hospitality Solutions International
(HSI) were selected as Hilton's preferred point-of-sale (POS) providers to keep
abreast of changing technology and compliant with regulations, including credit
card usage.
"The hospitality industry is unique because in addition to multiple food and
beverage outlets, hotels may also include gift shops, spas, golf courses, etc.
Micros and HSI allow the flexibility to use the point of sale system for retail transactions
as well as food and beverage transactions," explains Brenda Burke, Hilton
Hotel's Director of Hotel Technology Products.
Credit card companies consider corporations like Hilton Hotels Corporation to
be "Level One" merchants. Level One merchants must be proactive and compliant
with the newest credit card regulations, designed to make the transactions
more secure, Burke explains.
"In order to meet the strict credit card regulations, we rely on our POS vendors
to make necessary system changes. For example, we're upgrading to the
MICROS 9700 platform in order to be compliant. A lot of work needs to be done
in a short period of time," Burke says. "MICROS and HSI have the functionality
specific to the hospitality industry."
MICROS offers a variety of products and services, including hotel guest
data tracking systems, point-of-sale systems, real time hotel operations
tracking, hotel sales & catering software, restaurant reservations and table
